Term 3 Week 1 Home Learning. Week Beginning 4th January 2021

Hello Everyone,

We hope you have all had a wonderful half term and are all keeping safe and well. Hopefully you’ve managed to watch our welcome back videos on the post below this 😊

We know you would love to be back in school and so would we all. The Government clearly didn’t get the memo that it was superhero day today! That being said, we all know it’s the safest thing to do and we are going to do our best to make your home learning just as fun as being in class. All of your families are superheroes and are going to do a fantastic job helping you learn at home.

You will see attached to this post, a list of suggested activities for you to do this week. (If you’re using your phone or iPad, click on the title of this post, and then scroll down to see the attachments) We will also create one for next week and post it on Sunday afternoon. Please complete the activities as best you can, but do not worry if you can’t complete them all. We completely understand it is a challenging time for everyone and we are here to support you virtually along the way. You will also notice we have added lots of different ‘more or less’ worksheets, just incase you want to give your child them to independently complete to support Friday’s task.

Next week, you will be pleased to know that you can log on ‘live’ in the morning and an afternoon slot, to join one of us for an online lesson for your child. You will receive more information this week with details of how to do this. If you cannot make the time slot, please do not worry as we will record them and post them onto the blog for you to watch at your own convenience.

We will look forward to hearing from you through ‘Evidence Me’ and we will also be in contact with you all soon. Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can help with.

We are all thinking of you, keep safe.

Kind Regards

Term 2. Week 7. Week Beginning 14th December

Hello Everyone,

What a fantastic term we have all had. The children have thoroughly enjoyed their last week of festive fun. We hope you all enjoy watching our CCS Nativity 2020. We are all so proud of what the children and staff achieved.

Breakfast with Santa

The children enjoyed listening to a story and then ate a delicious morning snack.

Mince Pie and Milkshake Afternoon

What a fantastic afternoon the children had. Mrs Kelly organised a whole afternoon of fun filled activities. The children used a range of resources to  create a Christmas decoration. A popular room was the biscuit decorating, lots of icing and delicious toppings were poured on and then they got to eat their own designed biscuit. They got to enjoy listening to a Christmas story in a third room and had time to read and look through lots of other books independently. The fourth room was also another lovely treat of a range of flavoured milkshakes and a mince pie or biscuit.

Writing

The children had a photo of themselves from the Nativity and had to independently write who they played. This really helped them in their ability to be independent writers. They sounded out words and wrote them down using a sound mat to help them if needed.

Understanding the World

This week discussions have been based on family celebrations, beliefs and different cultures within our class. We have talked about similarities and differences between our families and talked about what we are looking forward to doing in the half term break.

Expressive Arts and Design

We’ve thanked our MITIE cleaning staff even more than ever this week with the amount of glitter being used! The children have loved using a range of materials to create pictures and decorations. The use of glitter has definitely been popular.

General

We all just wanted to say a huge thank you for the wonderful cards and gifts, it is very kind of you.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas half term. Stay safe and we all look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 5th January. Even more exciting that the first day back we all get to be super heroes. In a way I am glad I am working from home, otherwise finding a costume to go over my bump might have been tricky 🙂

Merry Christmas to everyone.

Kind Regards

CCS Nativity 2020 UPDATE

Hello Everyone,

Hopefully you’ve all managed to see your keepsake DVD of our CCS Nativity 2020. You will have now also received an email with details of how to access the Nativity online too.

We hope you all enjoy watching it together.

The Foundation Stage Team

You can comment on this post 🙂 We would love to hear your feedback.

Term 2. Week 6. Week Beginning 7th December

Hello Everyone,

Wow, what a fantastic week everyone has had again. I video called Mrs Jeffery today and it was lovely to see all the children’s wonderful smiley faces. I am missing them a lot. The children were so excited to tell me all about their letters to Santa and the Christmas tree in the classroom.

Nativity

Everyone is so excited after watching the first draft version of our Nativity. We know you are all going to love it! Here is a little preview photo of the amazing transformation of our outdoor area to the stable.

I have created your keepsake DVD labels and our IT team will be busy making these for you on Monday. The Team will put them into a plastic bag along with a little gift from us all to the children. They have all been wrapped this week and will be quarantined before they come home to you. We will also be posting the Nativity video on the blog with a password so you can access it that way too.

Mathematics

Lots of different presents arrived in the classroom for the children to sort this week. They were all different sizes, shapes and weights. They had a lot of fun learning all about weight and comparing which box was the heaviest and which one was the lightest. They put lots of different boxes in order from the lightest to the heaviest. They were very surprised that the biggest box was not the heaviest.

Writing

This week the children wrote their very own letter to Father Christmas. They applied their phonic knowledge to segment words they wanted to write.

Understanding the World

Thank you to those of you who let us know some winter questions. The children enjoyed going on a winter walk this week. All the children and Mrs Jeffery look very cosy in their winter hats as seen below. The children have been talking about the changes that they could see and comparing them to our Autumn walk. Next term we are going to focus on lots of different investigations to encourage children to ask questions and compare and make comments on changes that they see.

General

You may have noticed on the school website that we have our New Reception Intake videos now live. If you get the chance, please do have a look at our Primary video and Forest School video as there is some great footage of the children in Reception and you can also see what else is to come for your child in their Primary journey at Caroline Chisholm School.  Here are the links…

Term 2. Week 5. Week Beginning 30th November

Hello Everyone,

Only 2 weeks left of the term!

Nativity

The children have been so excited to act out their scenes for our Nativity. I’m sure you can imagine acting with our 4 and 5 year olds is fun! We have all been super impressed with how well they have learnt their lines, and followed directions. It has been the highlight of our day watching the film clips. We can’t wait to piece them all together and share the film with you. Next week, the team will be filming the children singing the songs outside.

Tuesday – Please ensure your child has their hat in school as they will be recording our final song outside in their coats and wooly hats.

Literacy

This week has focused on teaching the children to write simple words and creating short sentences/phrases using them. Some examples are; The mug is hot. The elf can run. These really help the children learn how to leave finger spaces between words and build their confidence with segmenting words to spell. Any extra practise of spelling your child’s key words is a great benefit to them too, especially when they get to set 6 and have to remember how to write some tricky words from memory.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Our jigsaw work is continuing. This week we continue with ‘Celebrating Difference’ with a focus on ‘Houses and Homes’. The children talked about why their home is special to them and we looked at lots of different types of homes around world.

Understanding the World

We have continued to explore the seasonal changes and talked about the type of clothes we need now the weather is getting colder. Please ensure your child has a named hat and pair of gloves in school to wear during their lunch break and outdoor continuous provision.

Mathematics

This week we have been talking about ordering familiar events in our lives such as the children’s routine in the morning. The staff have used lots of language related to time throughout the day.

Phonics

Please continue to use bug club and education city to support your child at home with reading. The first phase 3 sounds/digraphs will be taught next week; qu, sh, ch and th.

We all hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Kind Regards

The Foundation Stage Team

Term 2. Week 4. Week Beginning 23rd November

Hello Everyone,

We can’t believe there are only 3 weeks left of the term!

Literacy

The children have been learning how to continue a rhyming string. Please continue to practise as much as you can at home. Ask your child, what rhymes with cat, dog, boat etc. If your child is able to segment three letter words, you could ask them to write a list of rhyming words. I have attached some rhyming sheets if you would like to use them.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We are continuing with our jigsaw work and this week the focus is ‘Celebrating Difference’. We have talked about how all our families are different and also talked about the similarities between us.

Understanding the World

As the weather is getting colder, our focus has turned to seasonal changes. We are currently creating a display of the children’s questions that they would like to find out this term and next. It would be great if you could talk to your child about the winter changes and comment with any questions they have on this post so we can add them to our display. A couple of examples of what the children have said so far…

“How long do animals hibernate?”

“Why do the leaves go from trees?”

“Why is ice slippy?”

Mathematics

The children have been consolidating their number recognition to 20 and have had lots of opportunities to work out one more and one less than a given number. They have to count forwards and backwards to find the answer. Some children have been using objects to support them. Some children have been using a hundred square to look at more or less with larger numbers.

Phonics

We have continued to focus on blending and segmenting words and consolidating our phase 2 letter sounds. Please continue to use bug club and education city to support your child at home with reading. The first phase 3 sounds/digraphs that we will teach will be; qu, sh, ch and th.

Music

Children have been learning to sing songs to tell a story. They are also learning to play a range of percussion exploring fast and slow beats. We have been encouraging them to make up lots of different rhythms/ clapping patterns in class.

Nativity

The Nativity rehearsing is going really well and we can’t wait to share the finished film with you.

A huge thank you to our CCS Friends who have made the children their amazing character headbands. They look absolutely fantastic!

Please could you comment with a thumbs up when you have read the most so we can get an idea of how many parents are reading the blog posts.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Kind Regards

The Foundation Stage Team

Term 2. Week 3. WB 16th November

Hello Everyone,

We have had another wonderful week in Foundation Stage.

Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design

This week we have been learning all about Diwali. We have looked at different artefacts that have been leant to us from different staff members and heard all about how they and their family celebrate Diwali. The children made their own Diva lamps which look amazing! They will be taking these home next week.

Music

The children are really enjoying learning their music sessions and have been using a range of musical instruments. We are also busy learning our Nativity songs.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development/ Odd Sock day

The children all wore odd socks on Monday to raise awareness for Anti-Bullying week. They had lots of discussions about friendships and being kind and what to do if someone is unkind to them.

Phonics and Key Words

This week we have been busy re-capping our phase 2 sounds and continuing to focus on segmenting and blending to spell and read words. Please continue to practise your child’s sounds and key words with them at home. We hope you are enjoying the bug club and Education City activities. Remember to comment on any other themes/topics you would like to be added to support your child in their learning.

Maths

This week and next week we have had a big focus on learning numbers 11-20. The children have been busy making rocket number lines to help them with ordering numbers from 1-20. For some children they have been using objects to add and subtract with numbers up to 20.

General

It’s been a lovely last week in school with the children, I will miss them all so much. I am looking forward to tuning in and teaching virtually and catching up with the children through the powers of technology.

All the adults have been super busy filming the children record their narrating lines for our Nativity this week. I am looking forward to lots of editing and to help create a wonderful video for you all. The adults in school are looking forward to start practising the different scenes and dances.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Kind Regards

The Foundation Stage Team

Term 2. Week 2 – WB 9th November

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are all keeping well. Here is a little overview of some of the highlights from this week.

Expressive Arts and Design

This week the children created their own firework pictures using a range of resources. We watched a video of some fireworks and helped the children learn some new words to describe what they could see.

Writing

The children used their fireworks picture to inspire their writing this week. They wrote a list of descriptive words. All children were encouraged to say the words slowly so that they could hear the sounds in the words. Then they used sound mats to help them write the letters they could hear.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This week we launched the Jigsaw PSED scheme of work. We began the session by listening to a long chime bell to calm and focus our thoughts. We focused on talking about all the things that make us different as individuals and celebrating all those differences.  We passed jigsaw Jeanie around the circle and shared the things we are good at, what we like to do and what makes us unique.

Key words and Home Learning

Please continue to practise your child’s key words with them at least 5 times a week. If your child is not recognising the letter sounds yet, you could practise with their sound book too. We have allocated more books and games on bug club for your child. All of of their login details can be found in the front of their learning logs.

We have also added more educational games to your child’s Education City account. Again, details of their logins can be found in the front of their learning log. If you have any requests for games to support a specific area of learning, please comment on this post or email me directly on amccormack@ccs.northants.sch.uk

Today the children have been very excited to wear their own clothes to school to raise money for Children in Need. We talked about why we are raising money and that every family is different. On Monday next week, the children are invited to wear odd socks to raise awareness for Anti-Bullying week. Today we watched a video created by our very own secondary CCS students, on the importance of being kind to everyone.

After all the fun learning the children have had, they were most excited today when Mrs Wilding gave us two large boxes! As you can see they had a great time writing and drawing all over them 🙂

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Kind Regards

The Foundation Stage Team

Term 2 Week 1. WB 2nd November.

Hello Everyone,

The children have had a fantastic first week back at school.

Thank you to everyone who e-mailed us photographs or provided your child with a photo for their half term writing. We have been really pleased with the progress the children have made with hearing and writing sounds in words. It was lovely to hear all the children talk so enthusiastically about their photos with their friends.

Phonics

We have taught the letter sounds h, b, f, l this week. We have continued to practise blending sounds to read words as a group such as ‘can’, ‘got’, ‘back’ and have began to read tricky words ‘to’, ‘go’ and ‘I’.

Physical Development

Mr Wood has been busy teaching the children how to throw and catch a ball and also continuing to play lots of spatial awareness games.

We have started our fine motor and gross motor rotation afternoons. The children have loved having fun with lots of different fine motor activities such as threading, writing in sand and cornflour and using tweezers to pick up objects. They have also been practising to draw lines, zig zags and the long ladder letters. You will find these on the handwriting sheet we gave out on the 16th October.

Mathematics

We are continuing to practise number recognition 0-20. For the children that are able to recognise these numbers, we are counting forwards and backwards to identify one more and less than a given number. Some children have been learning how to write this in a number sentence.

Please check your child’s book bag everyday. On a Friday, we always check their key words and if they get a new set they will be in their book bag on Fridays. Please continue to practise reading and spelling the key words with your child.

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Kind Regards

The Foundation Stage Team

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are all keeping well and your child is beginning to tell you a lot about their school day.

If they haven’t, here are a few things that we have done his week.

Maths

We have been looking at numbers everywhere in the environment. Next week we will be focusing on matching numbers to the correct amount of objects.

We used a range of different objects and shapes to create 3D shapes and then we went on a walk outside to look for shapes in the environment.

Following on from our Goldilocks and the three bears, we used the sand pit to investigate heavy and light objects. We thought about the different sized bowls and whose would be the heaviest and lightest.

Expressive Arts and Design

The children enjoyed exploring how to mix different colours. They had a try first by experimenting and then we began to teach them about the primary colours.

Literacy

We have enjoyed rhyming activities this week. We listened to lots of different stories and nursery rhymes and tried to identify some rhyming words. We will be continuing to practise continuing a rhyming string and asking the children ‘what rhymes with’ …. cat/dog/boat etc Please practise rhyming at home as much as you can.

Phonics

This week we have learnt the sounds – i, n, m, d.

We have continued to practise hearing and writing initial sounds in words and are also blending 2 and 3 letters words throughout the day.

Home Learning

Your child will get their learning log, sound book and their first set of key words to learn and a guided reading book this week. They will take this home on Friday along with their learning pack if you have purchased one. We have also signed your child up to our ‘Bug club’ online books and activities. Your child’s individual login will be stuck into the first page of their learning log.

Thank you to those of you that have sent us an observation on Evidence me, they are wonderful to read.

Term 1 Week 5

Hello Everyone,

Wow! What a week! The children have had a wonderful week staying at school full time. They are well and truly exhausted after a busy week.

This week we have been busy constructing different models using imagination and using them to tell stories with each other. We had a story focus this week on ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’. After listening to the story a few times, the children created some of their own drama, trying to remember key parts and phrases from the story.

We have also been teaching the children how to use the interactive whiteboard to acess a range of educational games.

They had their first PE sessions and Mr Wood was very impressed with how well the children listened and enjoyed the lesson.

Phonics

We have started to learn a letter sound daily. This week we have learnt – s,a,t,p. We have practised saying different words that begin with the given letter sound. Please practise as much as you can when in the car or walking to school to.  More information about our phonics lessons will be discussed during the parent workshop. Just a reminder that this is for parents only 🙂

In week 6 we will be exploring colour mixing, going on an Autumn walk, a shape walk and learning about different sizes and weights.

They have settled into school very well and we hope you are enjoying receiving some photos and videos from school. We aim to send these observations out every Monday from the previous week. Don’t forget you can send us your own observations too. Here is a reminder of how to do this.. click on the link below.

This week the children have been learning to use the new resources and explore their new environments, making lots of new friends. They have also been learning about our school SMART Charter which you will find in your handbook.

Here are a few photos of the children during their first and second week at school.

We will aim to upload some photos to the blog on a weekly basis so please don’t worry if you can’t see your child this week, we will aim for all children that have permission to be seen at least once a term.

Next week the children stay for lunch. The pick up time for your child is 1pm all week. Please continue to pick your child up from the studio as you have been this week. Please also remember to make sure you have emailed your child’s food order following the email you received.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Not long to go!

Hello everyone,

We hope you have had a wonderful Summer break and bank holiday.

We are looking forward to welcoming you and your child to our ‘In School Visits’ this week and next Monday. We will be able to talk through your child starting school and answer any questions you have.

Your child does not need to be in school uniform for this visit or for their hour long ‘Stay and Play’ visit on Tuesday 8th September. They will need to wear their school uniform for their first day of part time schooling. You will have your child’s start date on email, if you are unable to locate this please email the Primary office
primaryoffice@ccs.northants.sch.uk or you can ask us during your In School Visit.

You will have also received an email from ‘Evidence me’, please accept and create an account when you are able to. This is an upgraded version of ‘2Simple’ which we discussed in the online induction meeting. It is the same company so if you sent us a video of your child to 2simple please don’t worry as you will be able to access this through ‘Evidence me’ and be able to view our comments. Thank you again for sending these, they were so helpful and wonderful to see.

We are all so excited to meet you and the children very soon 😊

Kind Regards

Welcome to Caroline Chisholm School

Dear Parents and Children,

Firstly, we hope that you and your family are all well and we look forward to meeting you all as soon as safe to do so.  We would like to welcome you all to Caroline Chisholm School and the start of your child’s learning journey.  We understand that in the current circumstances you may have mixed feelings about your child starting school in September and feel uncertain about all the unanswered questions, which we all have.

Please be assured that we are very much all in this together.  We will share any new information with you as and when we are able to.

In the mean time, we understand with many nurseries and pre-schools closing many families are without guidance.  We have set up this Blog to support you in your child’s journey into school.

There are activity ideas, learning resources, top-tips and information for parents shared on this Blog.  There will be weekly activities posted on a Sunday and other resources and information added when appropriate.  There are ‘Pages’ to the right hand side which hold resources.  Sometimes the Blog needs to be ‘refreshed’ to enable you to see all the new posts available.

Sometimes there are opportunities for you to comment on the post, your child may like to share their thoughts, ask a question or simply acknowledge a post has been seen.

Please ask any questions, we are here to support you and your family.

Kind regards,

Foundation Stage Team
