Home Learning Monday 18th January

Hello Year 2, we hope you all have a relaxing and restful weekend and are ready to go with another week of learning. Starting this week all your lessons and resource will be on MS Teams as well as your live check ins with your teachers.

The live check ins will be at 9:00am and 1:30pm each day. Do not worry if you cannot make every check in due to sibling clashes or parent’s work commitments, we understand everyone’s situation is different. Your daily SWAY will then be posted with all your lessons after each morning’s meeting on Teams.

For today’s first welcome check in however the meeting will be 10:30 am. We have done this to try and avoid any sibling clashes where possible for everyones first live meetings with their teachers. The SWAY will then be posted after. While you wait for our first meeting you may want to find your favourite book as for our Guided Reading today you will be making a poster all about said book. If it is a shorter book you may even want to reread it.

We look forward to checking in with you all and hope as many of you can make it as possible!

Hello Year 2, we hope you are ready for todays learning and activities! Today we will have a Guided Reading Session, a Maths session, a English/spellings session and an R.E. session for you. As always you can follow the timetable below if you want to and please just complete what you can.

Timetable: FLP outline WB 11.01.21

Guided Reading: For Guided Reading today we would like you pick one of the stories from the First News link below to read and then answer the follow up questions about the article. You may read about the World News, The protective Power of Poo (which you have already read on Tuesday), Santa on the Sea or Amazing Albatross Lays Egg at 69. The choice is yours!

Remember if you need to underline or highlight parts of the article to help you answer the questions this is fine!

First News: First News-Four Stories

English: For English we would like you to have a go at spelling your Common Exception Words. Last term you should have all been given a sheet with a list of words on for you to practice ready to revisit this term. At the bottom of that sheet it should say either, Year 1, Year 2 Set 1, Year 2 set 2 or Year 3&4. Click on the matching link below and Miss Losty will read your words aloud to you. Remember to take you time and that we only want you to do your best!

At the end look at the matching word list below and mark how many you got right and see which ones you may need to practice a bit more. We would love it if you could become teachers and highlight the words you need to practice on your new sheet below, just like we would!

**Update: Please note- there are some instructions missing from the Maths challenge sheet.

For the last three pictures, can the children look at each set of pictures and write a multiplication story to match each one? They can use ideas from the examples above on the sheet.
Can they then write a multiplication calculation to match their story?
For example, for the apples picture…
Mrs Wheeler ate two apples on each day of the weekend. How many did she eat?
2 x 2 = 4.

R.E.: For some of our theme learning and foundation subjects we are going to be using resources from Oak Academy to support your child’s learning. Today our foundation subject is going to be R.E. Click on the link below to access the input video and the lesson.

Home Learning – Wednesday 13th January

Good morning everyone, we were super impressed with all the work you sent in yesterday with your subordinating conjunctions including your Henry VIII facts and your portraits were AMAZING, as well as your fantastic maths work. Today we will continue with a session of Guided Reading, English, Maths and Art.

There is also a little mid week fun challenge for you at the bottom of the page and video from Miss Coleman. Enjoy!

Weekly Time Table: FLP outline WB 11.01.21

Guided Reading: For guided reading today we would like you to read the attached booklet with the fiction story ‘Tricky the Troll’ and then have a go at the questions in the answer booklet.

This is a longer text that we would usually start to look at during this point in the year. Remember to read a page of the story at a time. If you read the first page of ‘Tricky the Troll’ then stop and answer questions 9-13. These answers can be found on the first page.
Then have a go at reading the next pages and answering the final questions. Just try your best and underline the facts in the booklet if you need to.

English: In English we will be using our HPL analysing skills and meta-thinking to investigate some statements about Henry VIII and decide whether or not they are fact or fiction.

You all know lots about Henry VIII from your research and learning yesterday so today is time to use that in your detective work.

Click on the video below to listen to the instructions and introduction to the lesson. Then decide which way you would like to complete the first part of the activity. All of the information, recording sheets and PowerPoint that you need are below. We will be using these true facts next week in our writing next week so make sure you keep them somewhere safe with your research.

Introduction Video: Fact or Fiction Introduction Video

Fact or Fiction statements: Henry fact or fiction statements

PowerPoint: King Henry VIII fact or fiction lesson

English recording sheet:Henry VIII fact or fiction recording sheet

Maths: Today in maths we will be using the ‘My Maths’ website to complete some tasks that have been set linked to our multiplication learning. There are 4 challenges that you have been given each linked to a different multiplication family. Complete each of the tasks as best you can, parts of them have a timer challenge but remember to just try your best. The more you practise the quicker you will be!

My Maths Log In

You should have your ‘my maths’ log in details in your learning log, if you cannot find it, please email Miss Coleman or Miss Losty and then will let you know your log in information.

Theme-Art: Continuing from your session yesterday with Miss Losty where you chose your famous Tudor royal and spent time adding the detail to your portrait, starting with the face and then continuing to include the dress, hair, jewels etc. Today when you have finished this, you will be adding the colour to your portrait and thinking about how best to make your portrait as close to the original.

First News: First News-crossword-756

English: In English we will be revisiting subordinating conjunctions (because, when, if) and looking at how we can using them correctly at the beginning of a sentence. Follow along with the PowerPoint below as we remind ourselves of what we learnt last week and we explain how we rearrange the clauses to place the subordinating conjunction at the beginning.

For this session the children will also need their research from yesterday (Monday 11th) as will we be using the conjunction sentences to write about King Henry VIII.

PowerPoint: Subordinating Conjunctions Part 2

Home Learning- Monday 11th January

Hello Year 2, we hope you have all had a fantastic weekend and are now ready for another week of virtual learning. Just like last week, the night before each day we will post your resources and tasks for the next day. There will be a guided reading task, an English task, an maths task and then an extra subject such as history or art. As always please remember to just do as much as you can. We understand that everyone’s situation is different in these uncertain times so please do not panic about finishing every task we have set if that is not possible.

Similar to last week we have also created a weekly time table that you may use if you wish. This will tell you what the children will be learning each day and give you an order in which to complete the tasks if you wish to follow it.

Weekly Time table: FLP outline WB 11.01.21

Guided Reading: In Guided Reading today we would like you all to read the poem below ‘Rap Up Warm In Winter’ then answer the questions about what you have read.

On the question sheets there are 3 levels of difficulty, 1 star being the easiest, 2 stars being medium difficulty and 3 stars being the most challenging questions. You only need to answer one set of questions so please pick the level of difficulty that best matches your ability.

Poem: First News- Rap up Warm – Poem

Questions: First News- Rap up Warm – Questions

English: In English this week we are focusing on researching all about one of the Tudors most infamous monarchs, King Henry VIII. Today we would like the children to research; what King Henry enjoyed doing (hobbies), what he looked like, what he did as king and what his family was like.

The children may use any books they have on the Tudors or King Henry VIII, the internet or the PowerPoint we have attached below. Please remember when using the internet to use the Kidrex search engine to ensure that the children are only seeing child-friendly results. The children can record their finding on a word document, a sheet of paper or on the sheet below.

Henry VIII research PowerPoint: All about Henry VIII

Henry VIII research sheet: Henry VIII Research

Child-friendly search engine: https://www.alarms.org/kidrex/

Maths: For maths today we will be completing a mental maths test. Attached below is the PowerPoint video with all the questions on which Miss Losty will read aloud for the children. The children will only need a piece of paper and a pencils to complete this task. At the end Miss Losty will go through the answers with the children.

Mental Maths: Monday’s Mental Maths

Theme- Art: In the Tudor times, since cameras had not been invented, royalty and rich people paid artists to paint their portraits. The artists were often ordered to paint the portraits in a certain way, to make the people look better than they really were. Watch this Terrible Tudors clip as a funny example:

https://youtu.be/jkKCGhpd9Lc

Today we will learn about Tudor portraits and begin to make our own. You will need a piece of plain paper, a sharp pencil and a ruler for this lesson. If you are able to print off the face template, please do this beforehand. If you cannot, this is not a problem. Please turn up the sound and focus on the HPL skill of accuracy for this lesson and take your time.

In the lesson, Mrs Wheeler asks you to take a virtual tour of a portrait gallery. Here is another link to take you straight to Tudor portraits in The National Portrait Gallery- do take a look if you can!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everyone! We hope you all have a fantastic break.

We are sure that you’ll agree that the children have worked so hard this term and are ready for a rest! There is no set home learning to be completed over the Christmas break.  We would like the children to relax and enjoy some quality time with their families. Please continue to enjoy lots of stories together though!  If pupils would like to do some extra work then they can access reading books via Bug Club and practise spelling their Common Exception words, which we sent home earlier in the term.

We would like to say a really big thank you for all the wonderful messages, cards and gifts – it is extremely kind of you!

Stay safe and we look forward to welcoming all of the children back to school on Tuesday 5th January 2021.

Mrs Wheeler, Miss Coleman and Miss Losty
