All we ask is that you do the best you can. Try to focus on the core subjects which are Maths and English (which includes spelling and reading). Remember, you go to school to learn, not to get everything right. As long as you are taking part in the lessons and trying your best, we are happy.

Thank you for all your photos so far. Please continue to send any photos and videos of the work you have been doing along with permission to upload these to the blog, if you are happy for us to do so. We may not be able to respond instantly or give lots of feedback as we will be in school, teaching. Please feel free to email us any questions you may have and we will respond as soon as possible.

Here we go again!

Hello Year 3!

We hope you managed to access the video ok. As we stated, work for the next 3 days will be accessible via the blog. Hopefully you will be familiar with the format from last year. We know you all did a fantastic job of home learning last time and know you will do the same again.

There will be a few worksheets for you to complete this week, however, don’t worry if you don’t have access to a printer. All you need to do is grab a pencil and paper, write the question number and write your answer next to this.

Theme – It Takes Ages

This term, we are focussing on the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

For your first task, we would like to know what you know or think you know about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. You may present this information however you would like. This may be in the form of pictures, a poster, a mind map, a video etc.

Thursday

Reading – A reminder that it is important to keep up your daily reading, so to help you get back into the swing of things, today we would like you to read for 15 minutes or more. You can do this by yourself or you can read to a member of your family. Maybe even FaceTime a friend or relative and read to them.

Maths – Today’s lesson focusses on finding the difference, which again, 3EC covered just before Christmas, however it would be good to recap this session. The are some different worksheets for you to complete unless you would like to attempt the sheets we did before Christmas, once again.

Theme – for our sensational start, we would normally head up to the nature area where we would build out own Stone Age tools. We would like you to give this a go at home using anything you can find. You may want to visit the local woods or park to see if you can find any suitable sticks and rocks. There is an example below of the type of thing we are looking for, but feel free to do your own research/design your own tool. There is also a step-by-step video to help you.

Friday

Reading – It is important to keep up with current news, especially during a time like this. Log on to Newsround to catch up on the news this week.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround

Maths – Today’s lesson is all about finding change. This is new for both classes so please follow the lesson and worksheets.

Challenge 2 – Find Change C2

Challenge 3 – Find Change C3

Theme – The second part of the sensational start is to create your very own cave painting. There are some examples below. Before you start, do some research on cave paintings. How were the created? Why did they create them? Then, using any tools you have around your house, or in your garden, create your own cave painting. We want these to look as authentic as possible, so try to stick to natural tools such as coal, mud, rocks, sticks etc.

Sensational Start Art PPT There is a voice over for this PowerPoint so you will need to have your volume up and view it as a slide show.

Merry Christmas!

It’s been a long term, but we made it!

We are so proud of all your hard work this term and the progress you have all made. We hope you have enjoyed learning all about dinosaurs and rocks and fossils. We know we’ve had a great time teaching it!

A few reminders for over the Christmas period:

Maths homework: log on to My Maths, complete the activity that has been set and have a go at some of the games. Well done to those of you who have logged on so far.

Spellings: Practice the big spelling list, ready for a test on the first Wednesday back. Gamma you will be tested on the Year 3/4 words, but don’t worry, we’re not expecting you to get them all right. This is just your baseline test. Zeta and Mu, we are looking for progress on your scores from September, on the Year 1/2 list.

Reading: Check your reading journals for any tasks that have been set by your teacher.

Parents, thank you for all your support this term with the children’s homework and their learning and supporting the school’s COVID-19 policy.

Thank you to everyone who brought us a gift or wrote us a card. We look forward to opening them on Christmas day. Mrs Mason says thanks too!

We hope you enjoyed our little gifts to you.

Have a great Christmas and stay safe!

Miss Turner and Miss Carter

Week 7 Spellings

Parents,

Please ensure that for spelling homework over the Christmas break you firstly have a well deserved rest and then ensure your child is secure in spelling and using the words that have been tested so far this year. If you would like new/more words please look at the word lists below:

For Zeta and Mu:

Y1+2 Word List

For Gamma:

Y3+4 Word List

New spellings will be given in Term 3.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

We’ve been having a rockin’ time!

Over the last couple of weeks Year 3 have been looking at rock types. We have learnt all about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock types. What’s the best way to learn about rocks? Well, by using food of course! Have a look at our photos below to see all the fun we had.

This week we have also been working hard on our English and have been writing descriptions about not so friendly dinosaurs. We have also been learning about speech punctuation.

Our money learning is really coming on and we are getting very good at identifying coins and totalling amounts.

They’ve hatched!

It’s Friday! which means it’s time for our weekly round-up.

It’s Christmas and the classrooms have been transformed into wonderful grottos, which the children were all very excited to enter on Tuesday.

You may have heard from some very excited children that the dinosaurs hatched from their eggs this week. The children were all very excited. We spent some time working out which dinosaurs they could be and concluded that they could be a T-Rex, Stegosaurus and Triceratops.

What mas more of a surprise, was that the next day when we came in, the naughty dinosaurs had been wondering around the classroom, seeing how many marbles 3ST have, checking handwashing, hiding under chairs and reading books in the book corner. They’ve also been checking the maths homework tray to see who has handed their homework in. Let’s hope they’re all in by Monday!

And if that wasn’t exciting enough! We’ve moved on to money in maths! The children have been learning to identify and select coins and compare amounts of money. Next week we will be moving on to adding amount of money.

We have been getting creative with our writing and using fantastic vocabulary to describe a friendly dinosaur. Next week we will be describing a contrasting dinosaur, who is not as friendly…

In science we are looking at fossils and rock types, learning to identify different types of rocks, all about the rock cycles and the properties of the different types of rocks.
