We should be back at school between 2:45pm – 3:00pm. See you soon.
Wow! What a week!
A fantastic tour with a great group of students. We have done so much in such a short space of time. The only real time to take a breath was sleeping!
Willis tower, Soldier field, Rainforest Cafe, Beach, Cubs game to name a few but most importantly 6 international fixtures!
It was very interesting to draw comparison between football over here and soccer over there. The standard of the players, standard of facilities, coaching pathway etc.
The students made natural comparisons between their own respective results but it is worth considering this main point. The boys were significantly better than their opposition in all three games. Soccer for them is often the third/ forth choice sport and for that reason gets less exposure at high school and often players will need to attend clubs for their soccer. If a player is a talented basketballer / American footballer it is very unlikely they will ever play soccer and therefore the standard can be hindered by this. In comparison to football over here, the highest participation sport in the county.
In contrast to that, the girls found their opponents extremely technical and very athletic. Let’s not forget that the girls have been the best team in Northamptonshire for 3 seasons, a very talented side. Soccer is the number one girls sport in the US and because of that they all play and are all very talented.
That’s said the girls improved over the three games and put in by far their best performance against the best side they played.
The students have had a brilliant week as have the staff. Mrs Evans and I would like to publically thank Mr Melling for making this all happen. As you will know the time and effort that goes into organising something on this scale is phenomenal. That paired with your fantastic contribution and fundraising support has has set the standard with future sports tours at CCS.
In the next couple of weeks we will add all of the photos to a disk so you can view at your leisure and hopefully prompt the students to actually tell you what they got up to!
Thanks for keeping up to date with this blog. We hope you have found it useful.
We are on our way back to school. Estimated time of arrival is 3pm but will update when we get to junction 13/14 on m1.
All being well will be back at school for approx 2pm. Will update when on the m1.
Arrived 19:15 local time.
We are just preparing to depart from Chicago airport into Atlanta.
A great evening playing the final fixture at Croatian Eagles Soccer Club in Franklin, Wisconsin.
Another impressive win for the boys as they ran out 7-0 winners with some excellent individual and team goals.
Goal scorers: Louis James (2), Ben Mason (2), Jude Topham, Shaun Spencer and Ellis Williamson.
Mom: Sam Roper
The girls again faced a tough challenge against an excellent eagles outift, losing 7-1. The first goal of the tour for the girls came when a great ball over the top from Ciara Walker found Izzy Spragg in space, who fired home for CCS. The home fans and Mrs Evans celebrated in unison, at the first ever CCS girls goal in America!
All players met in the clubhouse after the game for pizza and we thank the Croatian Eagles for their hospitality. We hope to see you again in the future. Good luck next season.
We are just on route to our final games of the tour. Both kick off at 6pm local time. We are playing Croatian Eagle Soccer Club. Match reports to follow…
