Evening in Paris

We have had a fantastic evening – going to the Arc de Triomphe, having a three course buffet dinner in a Parisian restaurant, shopping on the Champs-Elysees and, of course, going up the Eiffel Tower. It was really magical seeing the Eiffel Tower wrapped with clouds and we managed to conquer our fears by going up to the top. Our view was admittedly a little obscured by the clouds but it was still breathtaking. I think it is fairly safe to say that we are now all exhausted and looking forward to a nice sleep. All students have continued to be an absolute delight and a real credit to the school. Off to Versailles tomorrow…!

World War I Memorial

We visited the 14-18 Memorial at Lens en route to Calais today, remembering the impact of World War I on France and its people. Students were struck by the scale of the cemetery and the nearby ring of remembrance which listed 580,000 names of the fallen.

Louvre

After some free time to explore the beautiful Parisian streets, we then visited the Louvre.

The galleries were absolutely vast and around every corner there was another piece of art to take our breath away. The Mona Lisa was fabulous and there was lots of Napoleonic propaganda which audaciously glorified and distorted events. We are very glad the Louvre reopened this week as it was awesome.

French Revolution Walking Tour

We had a lot of fun this morning on our walking tour. We saw all the best sites of the revolution, including the Palais Royal where Desmoulins riled up the crowd before storming the Bastille. See photos below of our own interpretation of this iconic moment!

En Route to Versailles

Everyone had a good sleep last night and were awake on time this morning. We had a breakfast of baguettes, croissants, cereals and, for many of us, lots of coffee! We collected our packed lunches and we are now en route to Versailles.

The students have continued to be absolutely wonderful and a real credit to the school.

Evening in Paris

We had a wonderful first evening in Paris. We went to the Arc de Triomphe, had dinner in a Parisian restaurant, went shopping on the Champ-Elysees and, of course, went up the Eiffel Tower. It was really magical seeing the Eiffel Tower wrapped in mist and we all conquered our fears of heights making the ascent to the top. Our view was admittedly a little obscured but it was still breathtaking.

We are all absolutely exhausted from our fab first day and are looking forward to a nice sleep.

Off to Versailles tomorrow….

PS Apologies for the lack of photos thus far- the hotel wifi is not great. We will keep trying to upload photos  when we can.
